SYNOPSIS:

The year is 1914. The first day and the first night of World War 1.  Austeria is the name of an inn run by an old, wise Jew named Tag. It is situated next to a road leading to a small town in Polish Galicia. It soon becomes the shelter for people fleeing Cossack pogroms. The crowd include emancipated Jews from  the little town, Chassidic mystics and religious fanatics who do not quite realize what’s going on around them. Among them, Tag stands out as a strong character, a philosopher and free thinker, painfully aware of the oncoming disaster. Displaying sober skepticism, he treats everyone to whom his Austeria became home for the night with great warmth. He can sense that their death is coming.
